Right guys, after my awesome internship in Hongkong I'm finally starting my MA at the London College of Communication in London.

"The structure of nature is a strategy for design"

This organic looking packaging design is based on the research of nature and how natures structure is a system for design. It always was and will be that humans are orientating themselves and getting inspiration by nature. It doesn’t matter if it is in the area of architecture, fashion…etc. People will always be fascinated by patterns, colours and structures of nature. Most of the best designs are simply based on natures and so is this packaging design for fruits.

After all my research and analysis about the Natural creations I decided to dedicate all my knowledge to a special design. Something from nature for nature. That was the reason why I decided to design a packaging design for fruits. I never design a packaging design either, so I was even more fascinated by the thought of creating new shapes for something which isn’t really branded those days yet. Fruits are most of the time displayed by itself, because of their natural package design, but there are fruits which come in plastic wrappings or clingfilm. I tried to create something what products the fruit but on the other side isn’t closed so that the fruit can still “breath”.

On your own terms project - FINAL LASER CUT INSTALLATION

For my final outcome I thought about different mediums I have used in the past such as posters, photography, print, 3D …etc. all sorts of mediums and this time I thought the best way to visualize this idea would be an installation.

Technique: Laser cut (lasecutworks.com)

Material used: Acrylic

The technique of laser cutting became really popular now at our university and I decided to use it as this medium visualized the fact perfectly because:
The “characteristics” of laser cutting is that it makes every job perfectly without any cutting or engraving mistakes IF the human doesn’t make one.
One of my tutors used to say all the time: Be careful in using laser cut, because the technique itself makes it so appealing for your eyes that the content and idea behind isn’t that important any more!

This was the reason why I used laser cutting because I’m dealing with humans getting computer-chipped and kind of robots in a sense to make the world perfect and a more controlled place.
Basically 2 theories of my research came together here to for this final idea.

• The first layer of clear 12mm acrylic was based on the “house of cards theory” this theory says. If you take one card out everything falls in. IT is exact the same notion I want to make people aware of when the get computer chips implanted. There are PROS and CONS:
PRO: To interact with the environment gets more and more convenient. You have all your info about you from health to money on your chip.
CONS: but on the other side if he chip is broken or gets stolen, all the information about you is lost or can get abused!

• The second layer of a gear system should visualize our system and on every gear is one letter which forms: S-O-C-I-E-T-Y
In the middle is the smallest cog which is the only gear you can move and spin…if you spin this all the other gears will spin too and the system works…BUT if you take this gear out. Nothing works any more and stands still = the society isn’t working any more.
The green colour from the gears should visualize the notion or patterns of an computer chip
The red colour from the smallest gear should symbolize the important of the smallest element and it says in engrave letters: “Control Element”
Another red element which should connect to the installation is the red “computer chip type piece”. The colour links both this piece with the installation and an installation always needs a little description to it anyways.
On this piece I connected the type as good as possible and the font I’ve used needed to be very simple (Helvetica)

COMPUTER CHIPS, WHICH CAN BE ABUSED AS CONTROL TOOL OR IDENTITIES CAN GET STOLEN EASILY BY SCANNING WITHOUT EVEN NOTICING IT. IMAGINE A WORLD WHERE NOBODY CAN INTERACT WITHOUT A CHIP ANY MORE. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU GO TO THE BANK, SHOPPING OR TO THE HOSPITAL, THE CHIP CONTAINS ALL THE INFO ABOUT YOU OR DETAILS YOU NEED TO INTERACT WITH YOUR ENVIRONMENT. OF COURSE INTERACTION GETS EASIER AND MORE CONVENIENT WITH THE CHIP, BUT THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING ANY MORE AND BREAKS DOWN LIKE A HOUSE OF CARDS WHEN THE SMALLEST ELEMENT, THE CHIP, IS BORKEN OR GETS STOLEN.

ON YOUR OWN TERMS - computer-chipped humans

This idea came through my visualizing process of my installation, how to things communicate to the viewer. I wanted to simplify the idea about humans getting computer chipped:

My main issue was to visualize the fact that you can’t see it from the outside, for example when you look at somebody’s naked body…

But when you take all of the human aspects away and I did this with visualizing it in the dark, you can suddenly see what is inside > a mechanical system> the chip!

To complete my idea I chose the medium of photography and a special like sensible colour which glows in the dark (NOT IN NEON LIGHT)

I took especially a colour which absorbs the light and glows then in the dark because the neon colours are still visible when you use it as body paint, the light sensible colour is invisible.

The technique of Letterpress is visualizing the way in which communication works the best!

I made every letter in a different font to visualize how divers this way of interacting can be.

Every print is different and contains different textures which are unique. By little messages in between the letters I want to show how complicated this area can be and ho many hidden or subconscious messages it contain.

Sometimes even hidden or not understandable..

The final outcome is still related from the info design piece where I transformed the piece of music into my own key so that everybody can read it even if you don’t know how to read notes.

The next stage was to take it into a new medium:

I wanted to design a visual experience so I decided to create an installation even if I don't know where it will take me:

(building the installation in the typo studio of LCC around the light)

After using the medium of photography I wanted to take the installation back into a 2D medium > a POSTER because I made an incredible discovery by placing around with the perspective of images of the installation:

I decided not to use an already existing font > This made me do my own font based on the elements from the information design piece from the beginning.

The last idea came while playing around with the medium of photography: I cut out the elements from the information design piece into a normal piece of paper but not complete so that I could bend it up and set the hard light from the studio in a way that I archive long shadows.

Most of the time it's about the relationship between text&image. To communicate the feeling of the music.

Example for combining Typography and music with Music characters like the singer Rehanna or Bob Marley:

The next step was researching through the internet what kind of option to producers or Djs have to show their music in public? One option is YouTube and another one is Soundcloud>

Visualizing Songtext without Text:

After this research I start looking at different music genres such as Techno/Electro, Dubstep, Drum and Bass, Rock, Classic,Gothic, Hip Hop and Comedy just to pick out some massive music areas and related them to Type-fonts. The aim was to bring the right association of the tones across with the help of typography even if you don't here the music right now>

During this aproach I went to a concert of the worlds Nr. 1 Techno Dj and Producer in London

where I start looking at the visuals on his screen behind him during the music was playing. Visual are there to support the music and the feeling of it during the show!
I saw very interesting elements & shapes and started creating font types on the bases of the visuals>

Brief:

This project is especially for secondary school kids, to show and demonstrate what powerful things design can do.

Task: Create 6 A3 poster ideas

For this project I decided to involve the technique of screen-printing. To introduce this medium to secondary school kids as an activity because out of my research I discovered that kids these days are too much involved in virtual games > this was the point when I created my first poster design:

The main poster was to create an information design piece to especially show and demonstrate secondary school kids the process HOW to screen-print in an easy visual way> Red & Blue screen-print on summerset paper

My main focus within this project was to show what the medium of screen-printing could do but at the same time involving a quote, which makes people think…

Here I’m demonstrating the 3D effect with 2 colours made in print:

The technique of 4 colour (CMYK) screen-printing was important for me to include because with this process it is possible to print images so that the look like pictures.

The message says: Isn’t it great when ideas just wok?

I took this phrase in combination with the idea of printing on acetate. Printing every layer on a separate acetate and when they overlap the give the full image.

Last but not least. The idea of fooling the eye>

Technique:

Using two digital Canon cameras with attached filters infront of the lense. One in green and one in red. These cameras are set up next to each other, to archive the 3D effect later on in Photoshop by over-layering the 2 images on top of each other.
